Brighton vs Spurs (WSL) | Robert’s preview: “They have a lot of good players”

Robert Vilahamn expects a tough test when we head to the AMEX Stadium to face Brighton & Hove Albion in the Women’s Super League on Sunday (4pm UK).
Like us, the Seagulls have won one and lost one of their two WSL outings so far this season, securing a 2-1 win at Everton on the opening day before going down 2-0 at home to West Ham United last weekend.
They were also victorious in the Conti Cup in midweek, winning 3-0 at Birmingham City, while we defeated Reading 6-0 at Brisbane Road.
Having battled out a goalless draw with Brighton at their training ground in pre-season, Robert knows we’ll have to be on top form if we’re to take three points from this weekend’s return to the south coast.
They have a lot of good players in their squad and a good coach so it’s going to be a tough game but hopefully we can perform well.
“Brighton are a team that have signed a lot of new players this year and are trying to restart and have a good season,” he warned. “They were quite good in the friendly game against us, it was an even game, they won their first league game which was impressive – to win against Everton away – and now they lost last time against West Ham, so I think they’re also trying to find a way to take their team forward.
“They have a lot of good players in their squad and a good coach so it’s going to be a tough game but hopefully we can perform well.”
Robert has something of a selection dilemma this weekend after he made 10 changes for the midweek Conti Cup match and saw six different players get on the scoresheet in a resounding 6-0 victory.
“Yes, it’s great to get those games where you can give the other players who have trained really hard and haven’t got an opportunity a chance to show where they are,” he said at his pre-match press conference on Friday.
“For me, it’s really important to improve and develop all the players in the squad. I think we need that competition, so it’s really pleasing to see the players take that chance and try to push themselves into the starting XI and make some problems for me, but I think that’s how we want it, so that’s good.”
