Gareth Bale admits he always has one eye on how we are getting on.
A Club legend having played 236 games in lilywhite, scoring 71 goals, across two spells in north London, now retired Gareth was speaking candidly to Sky Sports on Thursday (5 October) as he competed at the golf tournament, the Alfred Dunhill Championship at St Andrew's.
Having first joined us in 2007 from Southampton, he was part of the squad which lifted the League Cup the following before he really started to hit the heights at the turn of the decade, playing a key role in our first ever qualification for the Champions league in 2010 - a competition he announced himself to world football as he struck a hat-trick at the San Siro the following October against European champions Internazionale.
He enjoyed another two sensational seasons with us after that before moving to Real Madrid in the summer of 2013, where he cemented his status as a legend of British football, winning 15 major honours, which included five Champions Leagues and three World Club Cups. During that spell in Madrid, he returned to north London, joining us on loan for the 2020/21 season, and went on to score an impressive 16 goals in just 34 appearances.
Spending seven years growing up and ultimate flourishing in N17 in total, it is clear Tottenham is a place Gareth will always have in his heart - and that is why he continues to keep a keen eye on our progress.
"I normally follow Tottenham a lot," he grinned. "I'm obviously very close (to the Club)."
"I feel I really kind of made my name in the professional game, in terms of a high level (there). I always look for Tottenham's (results). I have a lot of friends there as well."
