Ange creates Premier League history with record-breaking start

Tue 24 October 2023, 13:15|Tottenham Hotspur

The records keep tumbling for Ange Postecoglou following our 2-0 home win over Fulham on Monday night.

Goals in either half courtesy of Heung-Min Son's 50th at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and James Maddison's first in our stadium since joining in the summer were enough to maintain our unbeaten start and return us to the top of the Premier League table with 23 points from nine games.

Whilst Ange was pleased with the victory and our work-rate out of possession which led to both goals, our Head Coach gave an insight into the standards being set at the Club with a typically honest appraisal about certain aspects of the team's performance that could have been better but what he cannot challenge are the record-breaking achievements he keeps on setting with this side.

Having already guided us to our best start to a league season in the modern era, the Australian created more history with a new record for the most points earned by a manager in their first nine matches in the competition, surpassing the 22 points set by both Mike Walker (Norwich City, 1992/93) and fellow former Socceroos boss Guus Hiddink (Chelsea, 2008/09).

Our 14th win in 16 top-flight meetings with the Cottagers also stretched our 100 per cent record in N17 under the 58-year-old to four games - adding to wins over Manchester United, Sheffield United and Liverpool - becoming our first manager to win their first four home matches in the division and continued his personal unbeaten home record to a staggering 52 games in the process.

It has been a hugely impressive start to life in England for the Australian who has already added the August and September Manager of the Month awards to his collection - becoming the first manager to achieve this feat in each of their opening two months in charge - and is on course to be in the frame for a third consecutive prize given our flawless form in October so far.

It is a quick turnaround for our final fixture of the month as we make the trip to south London to face Crystal Palace at Selhurst on Friday with an opportunity to move five points clear at the top of the league.
