Jamie Donley and Yago Santiago have both been shortlisted for October’s Premier League 2 Player of the Month award.
It’s the second time the pair have been together in the running for the monthly prize at Under-21 level after both were also nominated in August.
Alfe Dorrington was shortlisted in September as our players’ efforts during a 100 per cent start to the league campaign continue to be recognised.
For Jamie, the month of October started with a decisive brace as he helped Wayne Burnett’s side recover from 2-1 down to eventually win 4-2 at home to Chelsea. The forward’s first goal saw him come up with an innovative long-range finish around stranded goalkeeper Eddie Beach, before he planted home from inside the box to make it 3-2. Fellow attacker Yago opened the scoring before providing two assists in that game.
After subsequently helping us to a 2-1 victory at Bristol City in the Premier League Cup – Yago won the penalty from which Jude Soonsup-Bell scored our stoppage-time winner – both players then grabbed an assist apiece in a 4-2 league win at Sunderland last Friday night.
Jamie also provided the cross from which Alejo Veliz scored his first goal for the Club in a 3-1 EFL Trophy defeat to Peterborough United’s senior side on Tuesday.
Also in the running for the October award are Wolves’ Tawanda Chirewa, Lewis Koumas and Mateusz Musialowski of Liverpool, West Ham’s Callum Marshall, Ademola Ola-Adebomi of Crystal Palace and Reading’s Charlie Wellens.
The nominees were selected by the Premier League Football Development Panel after club coaches proposed the best performances by opposing players throughout last month. The panel will also decide the winner.
