Will Lankshear: “It’s such an honour to be selected for England”

Will Lankshear has spoken of his pride after earning his first-ever England youth call-up.

The in-form striker has been named in the Young Lions’ Under-19 squad for a trio of matches against Romania, Japan and Mexico in Marbella this month.

He joins Club team-mates Luca Gunter, Ashley Phillips, Alfie Dorrington and Premier League 2 Player of the Month Jamie Donley in the travelling group and will report for duty off the back of eight goals in 11 appearances for our Under-21s so far this term.

Signed from Sheffield United in August, 2022, the front man’s debut campaign at the Club was disrupted by injury but after returning at the start of the season, he’s contributed some important goals to help Wayne Burnett’s side establish themselves at the top of the table.

“I’m absolutely buzzing – it’s such an honour to be selected for England and I’m really excited to go,” smiled Will on Friday after his call-up was confirmed.

I’ve really put everything into the games we’ve had. Last season I was injured but now I’m back, I’m working really hard.

“I’ve been working hard towards something like this for a long time now and I’m so glad that I’ve got an opportunity to put on an England shirt, try to impress and hopefully stay there.

“Obviously I work with Luca, Ash, Jamie and Alfie here at the Club so I’ve got a bit of support there and I know a few of the other lads who I’ve played with before as well, so I can’t wait to get started.

“In terms of the way this season has gone, I’ve tried to be consistent and just work hard. I’ve really put everything into the games we’ve had. Last season I was injured but now I’m back, I’m working really hard and hopefully I will reap the rewards of that.

“I’m thankful to all of the staff and players here and obviously thankful to the England staff as well for giving me this opportunity. I can’t wait!”
