Robert Vilahamn has confirmed that Olga Ahtinen will be out for “a few weeks” with a Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) injury.
The Finland international midfielder went to ground in stoppage time during Sunday’s Women’s Super League draw with Liverpool and appeared to be in pain as she was carried off on a stretcher.
Providing an update during his press conference on Thursday afternoon, Head Coach Robert confirmed that Olga has avoided a more serious problem, but that she will be sidelined until the start of the New Year.
“We did a scan, it was a tough duel, she was in a lot of pain but we were lucky because it was no ACL, it’s only MCL,” he said.
“She will be doing some recovery for a few weeks and hopefully will be on the grass directly after the New Year. Of course, you always expect the worst so it was really, really good to hear this wasn’t an ACL injury.”
