Kit Graham: “This is such a great team to be part of”

Kit Graham has spoken in glowing terms about the impact of new coach Robert Vilahamn and what it’s like to be part of Spurs Women at the moment.

The team has made a positive start to the Women’s Super League campaign, not just in terms of results, but also in the style of football as we’ve won three out of four, scoring 11 goals, and performed impressively in the game we lost, the opener against champions at Stamford Bridge. Next up, it’s Everton at Brisbane Road on Sunday (2pm).

Plaudits have followed, not least with Martha Thomas being named the WSL’s Player of the Month for October after netting our first hat-trick in the WSL in a 4-2 win at Villa last time out. That win saw us top the table for a few hours and we now sit third, a point behind Chelsea and City.

Vibes are good at the moment, and we’re enjoying playing our football. That was the main thing - and we’re getting the results as well

Kit, back at full strength after a serious knee injury kept her on the sidelines from November, 2021 until February, 2023, feels she will flourish under Robert’s playing style, and so far has made five appearances this term, scoring in our Conti Cup win against Reading.

She said: “The vibe in the team at the moment is so good, it’s such a great team to be a part of, on and off the pitch. I think we’re flourishing at the moment, good performances in every game, I know we lost in the opener at Chelsea, but that was still a great performance.

“Last season, okay, we didn’t struggle to score goals in the second half of the season as Bethany (England) came along and did wonders for us, but everyone is scoring for us now and we’re never worried about a goal coming. We’ve conceded early in games, but I’m never worried that we’re going to score.”

Asked about the start of the WSL in general, Kit added: “It looks more open this season. Teams have recruited well. It’s been an interesting start. Teams you expected to start well because they did well last season haven’t done as well as maybe they would have liked. All I know is that we’ve strengthened, vibes are good at the moment, and we’re enjoying playing our football. That was the main thing - and we’re getting the results as well.”
