Donley: "Any of us could have won it, to be honest"

Despite continuing his astonishing run of being directly involved in a goal in every single game he has played this season to win the Premier League's 2 Player of the Month for October, Jamie Donley remained as humble  as ever in his reaction to it.

In flying form for our Under-21s this season, Jamie scooped the prize in recognition for the quite exceptional campaign he has enjoyed so far in Lilywhite.

Having been previously nominated for the award in August having assisted five goals in our opening three outings of the campaign, the young forward has continued to excel for Wayne Burnett's side. Making 12 appearances for our Under-21s so far this season, the Academy attacker has an incredible 18 goal contributions to his name in all competitions, and that includes at least one in each appearance.

In October, he scored twice and produced as many assists in just three outings in Lilywhite to continue his incredible run which helped him earn the Premier League 2's Player of the Month crown. However, as he reflected on the receiving the honour in an interview with SPURSPLAY, the 18-year-old felt it was an accolade that any of his team-mates could have received after picking up maximum points from their first eight league games.

I’m really happy about it but help comes with having good players around me

Jamie Donley on the award

"The team has played very well this season. All individuals have played really well so I think any of us could have won it, to be honest, just luckily it was me," he smiled at Hotspur Way.

"I think I played well individually. Obviously, the team's been doing well as well so that I think that helps me, so I’m really happy about that but help comes with having good players around me.

"I’ve probably assisted all of Will Lankshear’s goals so I think his clever movement, knowing the ability I have and the movement he has, and obviously the players passing the ball to me like Jude (Soonsup-Bell), Will, Yago (Santiago) and Nile (John), they’ve all played a part in it - giving me the ball, giving me the opportunity. So my team-mates have helped me a lot to do that as well."

Jamie's fine form this season has also been noticed by Men's First Team boss Ange Postecoglou and his coaching staff, and it was rewarded back in September when he was named amongst our substitutes for our Premier League clash at home to Liverpool.

For the forward, the ultimate goal is to be a regular in our matchday squads and that dream is something he is continuing to work towards each day.

"I earned the opportunity (to be in the squad for the Liverpool game) from playing well in in the Under-21s and obviously Wayne (Burnett) speaks a lot about this - that's the ultimate goal, that's what his job is, to create players for the first team," he explained.

"I just have to keep going and keep doing what I’m doing really. If I get an opportunity, I'll be ready, just making sure I'm doing everything to the best of my ability so I'll be ready if the opportunity comes."
