Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr have been nominated for the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) Player of the Year award for 2023.
Announced today (Wednesday 1 November), the duo are part of a 30-man shortlist for the annual award collated by a panel of CAF Technical Experts, African Football Legends and selected media representatives from a number of countries recognising their performances from September, 2022, to November, 2023.
Mali international Yves has enjoyed a stellar campaign so far in 2023/24. After early frustrations with injuries following his switch from Brighton in the summer of 2022, the midfielder has flourished since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou, becoming a key component of our side as we have enjoyed our best-ever start to a Premier League season.
Pape, meanwhile, has also become an important cog in our system since Ange took charge of our Men's First Team in July. A signing from Metz in the summer of 2021, the Senegal international spent the 2021/22 season back on loan with the French side before making his Spurs debut on New Years' Day at the start of this calendar year, coming on as a substitute for the final 10 minutes as we hosted Aston Villa at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League.
Having lifted the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal in the spring of 2022, he went onto play at his first World Cup in December, 2022, featuring in his nation's Group A clash with hosts Qatar and their round of 16 meeting with England.
The winner of the award will be decided by votes from a panel consisting of the CAF Technical Committee and media professionals as well the head coaches and captains of member associations and clubs involved in the group stages of the Interclub competitions before being announced at the Awards Gala on Monday 11 December 2023 in Marrakech, Morocco.
