Rodrigo Bentancur made his first start since 11 February as Uruguay beat Bolivia 3-0 in 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying on Wednesday morning.
Making his comeback from a long-term knee injury with a string of substitute appearances for both club and country in recent weeks, 'Lolo' was named in a starting lineup for the first time since sustaining the injury at Leicester City more than nine months ago and played 86 minutes before being replaced with his side holding a three-goal advantage after Darwin Nunez netted a brace either side of an own goal from Gabriel Villamil.

The midfielder, who came off the bench in La Celeste's impressive 2-0 away win over Argentina - his first run out for his nation since the 2022 World Cup - in their previous outing, earned his 56th cap and almost marked his return to the starting XI with an assist for winger Cristian Olivera who squandered a big opportunity to make it four on 73 minutes as Uruguay cruised to victory in Montevideo.
The result completes a successful international break for Marcelo Bielsa's side with these two victories making it three wins on the spin to keep pace with CONMEBOL group leaders Argentina who sit two points above them on 15 points from six games.
