Ange Postecoglou has given an update on Rodrigo Bentancur’s injury against Aston Villa - reporting that our medical team are looking at an ankle issue, rather than knee.
The midfielder started so well as we forged ahead 1-0 in the first half but was forced off after 32 minutes after taking the force of a challenge from Matty Cash.
The feeling of disappointment for Rodrigo from team-mates and supporters was tangible in the stadium as he limped away - this was his first start in a Spurs shirt since recovering from a cruciate ligament injury sustained in February. Villa went on to win 2-1 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Asked about Rodrigo on our Review Show, Ange told us: “I was disappointed to lose him because he started the game so well, you can see his quality, and that’s a reason we got such a foothold in the game. With him coming back from a serious injury, you are concerned about it. From what I understand, it’s his ankle rather than his knee, but it’s not what we need right now, another injury, but that’s what we’re going through.”
