A Royal return
Emerson Royal and Yves Bissouma were back in the squad today after their respective injuries, with Royal starting as one of three changes from our last game at Liverpool – it was Royal for Ivan Perisic, Clement Lenglet for Eric Dier and Richarlison for Dejan Kulusevski.

No change for Palace
Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson, the oldest manager in Premier League history, started with an unchanged team after the Eagles beat West Ham in a seven-goal thriller at Selhurst Park last weekend.
The report...
Harry Kane struck the only goal of the game to give us a narrow win over Crystal Palace and continue to rewrite the goalscoring record books in the process.
The forward headed home his 209th Premier League goal in first-half stoppage time at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday afternoon, moving him ahead of Wayne Rooney and into second place outright on the competition's all-time goalscoring chart. This was also his 100th home goal in the Premier League, making him the first player ever to score a century of goals at home and away in the division and he also became the first player to score 10 headers in a single season!
There was a good tempo early on with both sides looking to play on the front foot and the first big chance came on 17 minutes when Cristian Romero glanced Pedro Porro’s corner onto the crossbar before Kane slipped in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg but he blazed over from 15 yards. At the other end, Michael Olise’s snap-shot tested Fraser Forster in the 28th minute and Joachim Andersen prodded over at the back post nine minutes later.
The opening goal came just as the game entered first-half stoppage time. Ben Davies played a ball in to Kane in the centre-forward position 20 yards from goal, he swivelled and pinged it wide right to Porro who took a touch and delivered the perfect cross for Kane to head past Sam Johnstone at the back post.
Palace had a couple of opportunities early in the second period but Eberechi Eze dragged wide and Forster saved low down from Cheick Doucoure’s angled drive, while Johnstone made a smart save to tip over Porro’s deflected effort as the game continued to flow from end to end. The Palace keeper did even better in the 76th minute when Heung-Min Son latched onto Romero’s superb ball and tried to round Johnstone but he blocked Son’s shot when he looked like he was about to tap into an empty net.
We needed Kane’s defensive qualities to protect our lead six minutes from time when Andersen rolled the ball across the six-yard box but our captain was there to clear the danger. The game became a bit tetchy in the closing stages and the flow of the match was broken up, but that probably suited us as we held out for the final moments to record our first win in five.

Key moment
Once again it was Harry Kane with the big moment in the game. The goals have flowed regularly all season for the England international and he was the right man in the right place again today. The stadium announcer was in the process of telling us how much stoppage time was being added at the end of the first half when Kane climbed above Joel Ward to head home Pedro Porro’s excellent cross for his 26th Premier League goal of the campaign.

Goal of the game
Harry Kane (45+1) - Spurs 1-0 Crystal Palace

Star of the show - Cristian Romero
It wasn’t the most free-flowing game of football and became a bit of a battle at times so credit goes to our defence who stayed strong against an in-form Palace side which contains plenty of match-winners of their own. Emerson Royal made a fine return from injury and shout-out also to Clement Lenglet, Ben Davies and the central midfielders Oliver Skipp and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. But the main man today was Cristian Romero, who seemingly never missed a single tackle, header or block and whose passion was there for all to see this afternoon.

Stats a fact!

Record day for Harry
The most impressive stats this afternoon all revolve around Harry Kane as he netted his 209th PL goal, - 100 at home, 100 away – and scoring 10 headed goals in a season in the process. The previous best of nine was set by Duncan Ferguson in 1997/98.

Eagles' wings clipped
We continued our fine run in the Premier League against the Eagles today. We have now lost just once in 16 league meetings (W13 D2) and, when playing at home, we have won eight consecutive games with an aggregate score of 17-1, our longest winning streak in N17 against any current Premier League opponent.

Age nothing but a number...
There was one quirky stat today - there were 43 years and 308 days between Ryan Mason and Roy Hodgson's ages, the biggest gap between two managers facing off in Premier League history. The pair are the youngest and oldest respectively in the competition’s history.
Ryan's verdict...
“First of all, I’m very pleased with the three points and, secondly, with the clean sheet after the week we had previously. That’s very positive for us. It was a very difficult match, we knew it was going to be tough, Palace are in a very good moment, so to win and keep a clean sheet is a very good thing for us. Obviously, in the last five, 10 minutes, when you haven’t won in a while, there was a bit of tension, but overall, I thought we were good value for the win, and probably could have scored one more goal with Sonny in the second half but, overall, I’m very happy.”

What it means
The victory saw us climb back up to sixth place in the table and above Brighton, who jumped over us on Thursday night when they beat Manchester United. The Seagulls have three games in hand on us though. Liverpool are two points above us before they played Brentford early evening on Saturday. Our win over Palace ended our five-game winless run and was our first clean sheet in the league since the 2-0 home win over Chelsea in late February.
Next up...
Just three games remain for us now in the 2022/23 season and next up we face a trip to Villa Park to face Unai Emery’s Aston Villa. The Villans had been in great form recently, winning seven out of nine in the league before 1-0 away defeats in their last two matches away at Manchester United and Wolves. Our record at Villa Park is excellent, having won all seven of our last visits there going back to the 2012/13 season. Kick-off next Saturday (13 May) is 3pm.
