Wed 08 March 2023, 17:15|Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur Foundation today hosted a seven-a-side girls’ football tournament for aspiring young players to celebrate International Women’s Day.
Taking place at New River Sports & Fitness centre in Haringey, the tournament saw participants representing a range of schools from across London given the chance to impress under the watchful eye of Foundation coaches and players from Tottenham Hotspur Women’s first team – Molly Bartrip and Eveliina Summanen.
The players were special guests and were on hand to pass on advice and words of encouragement to participating players.
The event saw twelve school teams from across London take part, with East Barnet School being crowned champions after a thrilling penalty shoot-out.
Speaking at the tournament, Molly said: “It was great to join Tottenham Hotspur Foundation today to help deliver their girls football tournament. It’s important we celebrate International Women’s Day and recognise not only how far women’s football has come, but how exciting the future is for the sport. The Club and Foundation are doing excellent work in creating opportunities for women and girls, and it was exciting to see this firsthand today – well done to all the teams who take part today!”
One participant added: “Today’s tournament was great fun. I’ve only recently started playing football, but meeting Molly and Eveliina has inspired me even more to keep practicing. Their team talks were really motivating, I hope to be able to play professional football one day like them.”
