Southampton 3-3 Spurs
Premier League

It ended all square at St Mary’s Stadium after we let slip a 3-1 lead to share the spoils in a high-scoring encounter with Southampton on Saturday afternoon.
A first-ever Spurs goal for Pedro Porro opened the scoring, cancelled out by Che Adams seconds after the restart before Harry Kane and Ivan Perisic – also with his first for Spurs – put us 3-1 up with 16 minutes remaining. But Theo Walcott pulled a goal back for the hosts and James Ward-Prowse slammed home a 93rd-minute penalty to leave us with just the one point to take back to north London.
A frantic start to the game saw chances and substitutions for either side. Son failed to divert Porro’s fine pass goalwards before Ward-Prowse fired in a shot which Adams almost prodded home, while Richarlison and Armel Bella-Kotchap both picked up injuries and were replaced by Dejan Kulusevski and Mohammed Salisu respectively. By the end of the first period, both sides had lost two players each to injury, Jan Bednarek and Ben Davies also departing the action as the Saints lost both of their starting centre-backs.
We created the better opportunities during the first period but had to wait until stoppage time before breaking through. Son threaded a wonderful pass out wide to Porro in acres of space and he had time to set himself before smashing his finish into the roof of the net. That was his first Spurs goal - and Son's 50th Premier League assist.
The Saints - bottom of the table - tried to hit back immediately with Kyle Walker-Peters’ drive from the edge of the box always rising over the bar, but they were level within seconds of the restart, Walcott set free down the right and his low cross was turned home by Adams. That gave the home side and their fans a real lift and we were under pressure for a spell but weathered the storm and hit back to take the lead on 65 minutes, Kulusevski sending over a lovely left-foot cross for Kane to head home his 21st Premier League goal of the season.
The Saints threatened again but Romain Perraud’s effort from 25 yards was parried away by Fraser Forster, back at his old club, while we went up the other end and added a third, Perisic hitting a shot into the ground which bounced up past Gavin Bazunu to give us a two-goal cushion.
The drama kept coming though, Forster pulling off a stunning one-handed save to deny Ainsley Maitland-Niles from distance before Walcott found himself in plenty of space eight yards from goal and made it 3-2 from Sekou Mara’s knock down as we appealed for handball in the build-up. We then needed another big save from Forster to prevent Mara from levelling it up, the keeper out quickly to smother his shot before grabbing the rebound.
Then, in stoppage time, Maitland-Niles went down as substitute Pape Matar Sarr attempted to clear the ball inside our area and referee Simon Hooper pointed to the spot, Ward-Prowse drilling home the penalty. We almost snatched a 98th-minute winner but Clement Lenglet’s glancing header drifted just wide and we had to settle for a point.
