He was unveiled as the winner at a special ceremony at The Roundhouse in Camden on Monday night (13 March), with the South Korea international seeing off competition from fellow nominees Michael Olise (Crystal Palace v Manchester United), Ismaila Sarr (Watford v West Bromwich Albion), Paul Smyth (Leyton Orient v Doncaster Rovers) and Laura Wienroither (Arsenal v Manchester United).
Harry Kane and Asmita Ale were shortlisted for Premier League Player of the Year and Women’s Young Player of the Year respectively.
Independently judged by figures across the game in the capital, the London Football Awards (LFA) commend the very best of football in the area over the course of a season.
Son also won LFA Goal of the Season in 2019/20 for his magnificent solo effort against Burnley.
Best Footballer in Asia
Separate to his latest LFA success, Son was recently crowned ‘Best Footballer in Asia’ for 2022 – the sixth consecutive year in which he has won the award.
First taking the honour in 2014, the 30-year-old has won the prize a record eight times to date.
