Luana on the World Cup: “These are massive tournaments!”

Thu 20 July 2023, 11:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Luana Bühler, our first women’s signing of the summer, can’t wait to get going in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

With seven Lilywhites called up for their countries, Luana’s Switzerland schedule is as follows:

  • Philippines v Switzerland | Friday 21 July | Dunedin Stadium | 6am (UK)
  • Switzerland v Norway | Tuesday 25 July | Waikato Stadium | 9am (UK)
  • Switzerland v New Zealand | Sunday 30 July | Dunedin Stadium | 8am (UK)

Our new centre-back is really excited to get out on the pitch.

“These are massive tournaments now,” she said. “With the Euros last year in England, it was really great to see all the people come to the stadiums and give the support.

“To feel this atmosphere when the stadiums are full, it’s going to push us even more.”

I’m really happy to start at Tottenham, hopefully after a good ending at the World Cup.

Switzerland won eight of their 10 group stage qualifying games for the World Cup, before knocking Wales out in the play-offs. This summer, they’ll be looking to go further than last year’s effort in the UEFA Euros, when they were eliminated in the group stages.

Luana will be meeting one of her new Spurs teammates when she comes up against Ria Percival and New Zealand on 30 July.

“I played against Ria before in Switzerland when I was a little bit younger,” Luana said. “She’s a tough opponent, so one I’m looking forward to having on the same team.”

After the World Cup comes to an end on 20 August, our players will be back in for pre-season ahead of the beginning of the Barclays Women’s Super League campaign on 2023/24.

“I’m really happy to start at Tottenham, hopefully after a good ending at the World Cup,” Luana said.
