Luana Bühler: “I like to play tough, keep my head in the game and organise”

No nonsense. That’s the approach Luana Bühler likes to take on the pitch, as revealed by our new signing following her arrival from 1899 Hoffenheim.
The experienced Swiss international defender has signed a contract with us until June 2025, subject to international clearance and work permit.
“I really like to play tough,” said Luana. “I’m a defender so that fits, but I still like to keep my head in the game and organise from behind. I have a strong and aggressive style of play.”
Bühler, who has followed our progress from afar since our promotion to the Barclays Women’s Super League, is hungry to get us back to the top half of the table.
“I love the vision of the Club and it’s really ready to go stronger in the next years,” she said. “The WSL is a really strong competition so I’m excited to compete with the best teams in Europe. That’s what I’m going to look forward to.
“I really want to be part of the process to get the team stronger, to have good games and win games in the league.
“My ambition is to get used to a new area and language, which I’m still learning, so please have some mercy with me! On the football side, I’m going to get to know a new team and competition, and I’m going to hopefully learn so much from this experience.”
Before Luana can settle into life at Spurs, however, she’ll be featuring in the FIFA Women’s World Cup for Switzerland and coming up against Ria Percival when the Swiss face New Zealand on 30 July.
“I played against Ria before in Switzerland when I was a little bit younger,” Luana said. “She’s a tough opponent, so one I’m looking forward to having on the same team.
“These are massive tournaments now. With the Euros last year in England, it was really great to see all the people come to the stadiums and give the support. To feel this atmosphere when the stadiums are full, it’s going to push us even more.
“I’m really happy to start at Tottenham, hopefully after a good ending at the World Cup.”
