Bethany England: 'This is an amazing new chapter for me!'

Bethany England says she wants to bring the “best version” of herself to north London after completing her high-profile move to the Club from Chelsea.
The experienced striker, 28, arrives with multiple team and individual accolades on her CV – she’s a Women’s Super League, Women’s FA Cup and Continental League Cup winner with the Blues, collecting several awards along the way, and was part of the England Lionesses squad that won the European Championship last summer.
With such a winning mentality and pedigree, she’s understandably keen to make her mark in her new colours when Rehanne Skinner’s squad returns to action after the winter break this month.
“It’s obviously a big day for myself and I’m excited to get going,” said the forward upon signing her Spurs contract. “The Club has got a lot of ambitions and I’m hoping that I can add to that and hopefully get the Club where it wants to be.
“It’s definitely going to be a challenge, different for me going from blue to white after obviously spending so long at Chelsea, but I’m excited for it and it’s something that I’m going to relish, a challenge that I’ll embrace with open arms. I’m sure it’s going to be an amazing new chapter for me and hopefully I can bring a lot of goals to the Club, as well as my experience and just a bit of leadership in the front line.
“I just want everyone to know that I’ll give everything I can for the Club and the badge. I’m someone who gives everything and, for me, it’s about making sure that I bring the best version of myself – my goals, my passion, my enthusiasm, my energy – to this team and hopefully that will be reflected on the pitch. It’s a privilege to be here and hopefully we can make some great memories together.”
The “best version” of Bethany is certainly a talented one – she swept all before her in a stunning 2019/20 campaign, winning two WSL Player of the Month awards before being crowned the league’s overall Player of the Season, having helped Chelsea win the title and scored a match-winning brace in the Continental League Cup final. She’s continued to enjoy individual and team success since then and says she’s “excited” to start out on the next stage of her journey with us.
“I think you look at the facilities… it’s up and coming in the women’s game, there’s not many teams that have got such great facilities to start with and speaking with Rehanne, she’s been a big part in this with her drive and what she wants to achieve out of this Club. I’ve worked with her previously with England so I have a bit of background with her and she’s got great aspirations like myself, so it’s got a nice homely feel and there’s a lot that makes me want to come and do a good job,” Bethany said.
“I already think the Club has got a lot of things going for it but for me, I’m quite driven, quite a strong person – I can be a loud character, I do want to give my best and I’m extremely competitive. I don’t care if it’s a game of cards or a game of bingo, I want to win, so hopefully I can help to make sure we’re a bit more ruthless in front of goal and get the team where it needs to be.”
Her performances and achievements on the pitch speak for themselves, but what about the person behind the player? “I’d say the biggest thing to know about me is my love of my dogs – I’m obsessed with them, they just bring every joy and happiness to my life, even if they are chewing things or doing whatever they do!” smiled Bethany. “Buddy is three-and-a-half, he’ll be four in the summer, and Dyllis is coming up to two years old, so we’ve got a boy and a girl. They’re just the light of our lives really. It sounds really silly but we just adore them! Off the pitch, I’d say I’m quite easy going, I’d like to think I’m quite a fun person but, again, I’m very competitive which is not always fun for other people!”
