We’re back in Women’s Super League action as we welcome Chelsea to Brisbane Road for Sunday’s 12.30pm kick-off.

Chelsea’s WSL story so far

One of the eight founding members of the WSL in March 2011, Chelsea have now won a record five Super League championships.

But when Emma Hayes was brought in as manager in 2012, the team finished third-bottom in her first season and second-bottom the following campaign.

However, going from part-time to fully professional allowed success to follow.

After coming second behind Liverpool on goal difference, Chelsea won the WSL title in 2015, 2017/18, 2019/20, 2020/21 and 2021/22.

This season

So far this season, Chelsea have taken 28 points from 33 available, putting them level at the top with Arsenal, but behind on goal difference.

Their one defeat came right at the start of the season, when newly promoted Liverpool won 2-1 at Anfield against Chelsea thanks to two penalties from Katherine Stengel.

Most recently, the Blues have knocked Liverpool out of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup after beating us in the Continental League Cup quarter-finals. Their last league result was a 1-1 draw against Arsenal at Emirates Stadium.

Rehanne’s thoughts

“You’ve got to want to fight and earn everything you get. It’s not an easy league or game. We’re now displaying the work ethic we should be. We fought until the end against Villa and to get a goal against Chelsea was important. We’ve got to fight until the end in every game and earn the right to get the points.”

Match officials

Abigail Byrne has been appointed to take charge of Sunday’s game, Melissa Burgin and Isabel Chaplin her assistants and Kirsty Dowle the fourth official.

How to follow

Sunday’s game is being broadcast live on BBC Two in the UK, the programme beginning at 12.15pm.
