Cristian Stellini has confirmed that Hugo Lloris is expected to be sidelined for ‘maybe the next six weeks’ with a knee injury sustained late in our win against Manchester City last Sunday.
Fraser Forster will come into the team in Hugo’s absence, starting with our Premier League trip to Leicester City on Saturday (3pm). Fraser is then set to make his Champions League debut for us as we travel to Milan for our Round of 16, first leg on Tuesday (8pm UK).
Cristian Romero is suspended for this weekend's clash at the KP after his red card against Manchester City on Sunday. Cristian reported that everyone else was available.
Hugo was injured in added time against City as he challenged for a cross with Rodrigo.
Speaking to SPURSPLAY after training on Thursday, Cristian told us. “We are all disappointed. At the end of the last game, Hugo made a great save, the last cross that Manchester City put into our box and, with courage, Hugo went to save this ball and in this action, he had a problem on his knee.
“At the moment, we know we have a big loss, Hugo will miss maybe the next six weeks. However, we also know very well that we have a good, experienced goalkeeper, and we trust in Fraser Forster, who has experience in the Premier League, experience in the Champions League. We are disappointed for Hugo, sad, but we trust in all the players we have.”
Meanwhile, Antonio Conte returned to Hotspur Way on Thursday, following surgery to remove his gallbladder in Italy last week. Cristian, his assistant, added: “Antonio is back and we enjoyed this morning to see him back again. He’s been training, he’s been to the pitch with us, but he has to take it easy for a bit. It was fun to see him here again with energy, it was hug for everyone. He spent time hugging everyone here. We’re so happy to have him back.”
