Hundreds visit Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and walk away with new jobs

• More than 800 local people attended a major Jobs Fair at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday, with 563 walking away with job offers through a range of employers
• Event held in partnership between Tottenham Hotspur Foundation and the Department of Work & Pensions is part of Club’s continued work to drive employment across its community
• Tottenham Hotspur Chairman, Daniel Levy, attended the event and said: “The Club is at the heart of its community and this stadium is the heartbeat of the local economy - we want to do everything we can to help local people and bring greater prosperity to this area.”

Data from the Office of National Statistics finds that the Borough of Haringey has one of the highest rates of unemployment in London, with 5.2% of adults unemployed, above the national average of 3.7%. In response, the Club’s stadium development has already been directly responsible for creating over 4,000 jobs for local people to date - with the number continuing to rise.

Tottenham Hotspur Chairman, Daniel Levy, is passionate about the Club and its stadium delivering life-changing opportunities for those living on its doorstep.

During a visit to Thursday’s event, he said: “Today was all about using our brand and this stadium to bring employers and jobseekers together - it’s been fantastic to see so many walk away from here with jobs.

“The Club is at the heart of its community and this stadium is the heartbeat of the local economy - we want to do everything we can to help local people and bring greater prosperity to this area.

“From my own experience, I went to a comprehensive school and was told to leave at around the age of 15 or 16, which was a massive wake-up call. Now I teach my children that with hard work and belief that you want to do something, in the end you will get there.

“When you’re given the opportunity you need to grab it - today’s Jobs Fair is an example of that opportunity and hundreds have grabbed it. We shall therefore look to continue hosting as many of these events as we can to continue driving employment locally.”

Over 40 different employers including Tesco, Stansted Airport, the Metropolitan Police and all of the stadium’s event day contractors were in attendance, offering roles ranging from entry level through to graduate and management positions, as well as traineeships and apprenticeships.

Alongside Jobs Fairs, Tottenham Hotspur Foundation also delivers one-to-one employment advice for jobseekers at its Percy House headquarters every Thursday - 10am-2pm - alongside interview skills training and employability programmes.
