The report in full...
For the 10th consecutive game we scored the first goal but, unlike our previous five matches, this time we didn’t let it slip. Destiny Udogie broke the deadlock in the 26th minute and we rammed home the advantage to ensure we claimed maximum points, Richarlison’s brace giving us a cushion before Heung-Min Son scored late on with our first penalty of the season. Unfortunately we let the clean sheet slip away in injury time, Joelinton netting for the visitors.
Both sides had early sights of goal, Richarlison’s fifth-minute effort taking a slight nick for a corner and Bruno Guimaraes drilling just over at the other end before Anthony Gordon broke free down the left, raced into the area and his cross was aiming straight for Alexander Isak but superb defending from Ben Davies made sure he got the slightest of touches on its way through which made Isak divert his shot wide.
Cristian Romero’s header from Pedro Porro’s corner was then cleared off the line by Miguel Almiron, but we took the lead with 26 minutes played. Udogie played the ball out to Son, he worked a yard of space down the left to shift away from Kieran Tripper and whipped in a dangerous cross which Udogie tapped home from close range. Shortly after, Brennan Johnson had four players to aim at in the box but Pape Matar Sarr side-footed well wide.
A mistake almost led to the equaliser on 33 minutes as Johnson gifted the ball to Isak, he played it on to Gordon who found Almiron but his shot was easy for Guglielmo Vicario. Instead, we made it 2-0 soon after as Son this time skipped past his former team-mate Trippier in the box near the byline and cut back for Richarlison to convert from six yards out.
We were always looking a threat in attack, Johnson’s shot from the edge of the area skimming the foot of the post and then we broke again, Son leading the charge, Kulusevski clipping over a cross but Richarlison missed a header in front of goal.
The visitors showed more intent in the opening stages of the second period without really causing us too many problems, Gordon volleying wide at the back post their best chance. But we came through those moments and put the game to bed with a wonderful third on the hour mark. Porro was the creator with a sumptuous pass in to Richarlison, who controlled and slid the ball under Dubravka.
How it didn’t become 4-0 remains a mystery as Johnson crashed an angled drive against the inside of the post with Dubravka beaten and then Son fizzed a volley inches past the opposite post seconds later as the Magpies struggled to cope with the intensity of our attacking play.
With 15 minutes left, Porro tested Dubravka with a low shot after first nutmegging Lewis Miley and, while Newcastle had a couple of moments in attack themselves late in the game, we won a penalty in the 84th minute after Dubravka upended Son. The skipper picked himself up to beat the Magpies' keeper from 12 yards for 4-0.
It should have got worse for the visitors but substitute Oliver Skipp saw a close-range effort well saved by Dubravka and Son drilled just wide of the far post, however they did grab a stoppage-time consolation goal when we lost the ball just outside our area and Callum Wilson squared for Joelinton to slide home.

Ange's verdict
“It's fair to say all our starts have been good in recent weeks, I just felt today we had a little more belief, and Sonny was a big difference there, I thought he set the tone really early for us and the other lads fed off that, that’s what you want from your leaders. Pape’s energy, Richy’s energy, just making those two changes helped us enormously. I’m pleased for the lads, they got their rewards today for a really strong performance. In general, our performance was probably at the level it has been, but we were more effective in the front third and, defensively, I thought we were outstanding."
