One of the stars of the FA's School of Excellence, Nick Barmby joined us in 1990 and made his Premier League debut at the age of 18 in September, 1992.

A pocket dynamo in forward areas, particularly affective in the '10' role, Nick looked at home straight away in the first team and within three years, had made his full England debut under Terry Venables at the age of 21 in March, 1995.

That was no surprise, really, as it came towards the end of his most productive season at Spurs, 1994/95, when he was part of Ossie Ardiles' 'famous five' with Darren Anderton, Ilie Dumitrescu, Jurgen Klinsmann and Teddy Sheringham. Barmby played 46 times in all competitions that season, scoring 11 goals, including nine goals in 37 starts in the Premier League.

However, that would be his last season at Spurs, as the Hull-born playmaker moved back up north to Middlesbrough in the summer of 1995, having made 108 appearances for us in all competitions.

He switched Teeside for Merseyside and Everton in October, 1996 and spent almost four years at Goodison before crossing the divide - switching from the blue to the red half of Liverpool. That coincided with the Anfield side clinching a treble of cups under Gerard Houllier - League Cup, FA Cup and the UEFA Cup - in 2000/01. Barmby contributed eight goals in 46 appearances.

Leeds were next for Barmby in 2002 before a return home to Hull and Hull City, where he played 197 times between 2004-2012, winning the Championship play-off in 2008. That meant another two seasons in the Premier League for Barmby - 2008/09, 2009/10 - before Hull returned to the Championship in 2010. Taking up a coaching role in 2010/11, Barmby was caretaker manager for a spell at the KC in 2012. His most recent role was at Scunthorpe United in 2019.
