Heung-Min Son will lead the Korea Republic at the 2023 Asian Cup next month.
Captain for club and country, Sonny has been named in Korea's 26-man squad for the quadrennial tournament which is to be played in Qatar across January and February.
Picked by Spurs legend and now Head Coach of South Korea Jurgen Klinsmann, Sonny will play at his fourth Asian Cup (2011, 2015, 2019 and now 2023) and his second as his nation's captain.
His campaign with Korea will commence on Monday 15 January (kick-off 11.30am UK) as his nation takes on Bahrain in their first group stage game. Also joined by Malaysia and Jordan in Group E, our number seven will then lead his country out against Jordan on Saturday 20 January before finishing the group stage campaign against Malaysia on Thursday 25 January (both 11.30am kick-offs - UK).
The nations which finish in the top two places of the group will advance to the knockout stages with the four best third-place finishing nations across the six groups also progressing. The Round of 16 will then commence on Sunday 28 January, the quarter-finals beginning on Friday 2 February, the semi-finals on Tuesday 6 February before the final on 10 February.
Last time out, Sonny help his nation to the quarter-finals of the tournament where they fell 1-0 to Qatar in 2019. In 2015, he played his part in his country's run to the final, where they were beaten by then Ange Postecoglou's Australia with the forward scoring in a 2-1 defeat.
Sonny heads into the tournament with 116 caps and 40 goals to his name for the Korea Republic.
