Fraser Forster: “From the second I arrived, I’ve loved being at this club”

A professional for 18 years, approaching 500 career games... at 35, Fraser Forster recognises that he’s entered a new phase of his career - and he wants that to continue at Spurs.
Joining us from Southampton at the start of last season, the former England international goalkeeper knew he was coming here as a number two, initially to Hugo Lloris, now to Guglielmo Vicario.
As it turned out, he ended up playing 20 times for us last term, including a return to Champions League football and the England set up in March. He’s added just the one appearance this time around with ‘Vic’ outstanding so far, yet Fraser’s displays and character around the place make it no surprise that he’s extended his stay until 2025.
You can see the atmosphere in the stadium, the fans can see what we’re producing, and I’m delighted to be part of that, and to help the team in any way I can
Ange Postecoglou’s arrival has clearly made an impact and Fraser expressed his delight after putting pen to paper on his new contract. He may be number two, yet he’s relishing being part of this journey.
“Yes, definitely, that’s the first thing, really,” he told us. “I’ve loved my time here so far and delighted to extend it. From the second I got here I’ve loved being at the club. We have a fantastic squad, and you can really see the direction the club wants to go in. It’s fantastic to be part of it.
“Ange has come in and everyone loves him. He’s been huge for everyone, not just the keepers. He’s very black and white in the way he wants to play and that instils confidence into everyone to go out there and play with freedom. As a player, that’s what you want to hear."
Speaking about his role at the club, Fraser added: “It’s not easy, every professional footballer wants to play on a Saturday, and that’s what the whole week is built around, but I was aware that when I came to this club, that probably wouldn’t be the case and I’d be the number two.
“As you get older, you appreciate different things, but to be at a club of this stature and the direction it’s moving in, it’s great to be a part of that. Okay, I’m not playing the games, necessarily, but you are trying to help people, be a good guy around the place and help the squad as a whole. All that matters, ultimately, is the team winning on a Saturday.
“Obviously, you want to play, but if not, it’s a case of doing whatever you can to help the team and squad win. You can see the atmosphere in the stadium, the fans can see what we’re producing, and I’m delighted to be part of that, and to help the team in any way I can.”
