Destiny Udogie: “To be here at this club is a big joy for me”

Destiny Udogie has told us how he’s felt at home since walking through the doors at Hotspur Way - and that has certainly translated to his outstanding performances on the pitch.
Initially signing for us in August, 2022, before returning to Udinese on loan last season, the Italy international has been a revelation in his first Premier League campaign, his defensive strength combined with his raids forward as an inverted full-back have really caught the eye in Ange Postecoglou’s system.
Always looking to join our attacks and play on the front foot, Destiny's reward came on Sunday when he scored his first goal in Spurs colours, the opener in our fine 4-1 win against Newcastle at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Off the pitch, he’s been rewarded as well with a new deal extending his stay to 2030.
From the first day I came here, I felt at home, with the players, the coaching staff, the whole club, I feel so welcome
Speaking to us after putting pen to paper, Destiny said: “I’m really happy... happy because to be here at this club is a big joy for me, and happy for this opportunity. From the first day I came here, I felt at home, with the players, the coaching staff, the whole club, I feel so welcome. It’s the way everyone at the club respects you, the players, everyone.”
Still only 21, Destiny is now 14 games into his Premier League career. He has a goal and two assists, has created 10 chances and is the only defender to have won possession in the final third at least 12 times.
Asked how he’d found the Premier League so far, Destiny said: “The Premier League is very tough, it’s a physical league, intense... the staff are doing big work every day, and it’s showing on the pitch. It’s the most difficult league, you have to be ready mentally, physically, and I’m finding a good experience. Every day I’m learning something new, every day working with great players.”
