Programme exclusive | James Maddison: “A chant would be lovely!”

Thu 17 August 2023, 16:45|Tottenham Hotspur

James Maddison is already loving life in N17 despite only being with us for a matter of weeks - however he admits there is still something missing.

The England midfielder joined us from Leicester City in late June and has settled quickly into his new surroundings, enjoying a productive Spurs debut last weekend with two assists in our opening day draw at Brentford. But he still doesn’t have his own chant and wants the Spurs faithful to step up!

Speaking in an exclusive interview in our matchday programme for the game against Manchester United on Saturday, new vice-captain Madders explains that he’s looking ahead to his first league appearance in front of our own fans and putting on a display that is hopefully worthy of his name being sung in full voice from the stands.

“I’m really looking forward to it,” he beamed. “I can't wait to experience a home Premier League matchday as a Tottenham player and perform for the fans and repay their faith and spirit that they bring by putting on good, attacking performances.

“A chant would be lovely though! No matter how many times you're involved in football and how long you've been in the game, every single time you hear your name chanted and sung it's a heart-warming feeling that you can't really describe. So come on Spurs fans!”
