Local children invite Ledley King to adventure playground to mark National Play Day

Local children invited Ledley King to their very own adventure playground as they marked National Play Day in Tottenham.

Somerford Grove Adventure Playground, located a stone’s throw from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, has been built and designed by local children and provides a safe space for young people to enjoy a range of activities completely free of charge.

Ledley’s visit marked National Play Day which celebrates and encourages children to enjoy play to support their health and wellbeing and learn new skills. This year’s theme - Playing on a shoestring - acknowledges the importance of free play activities being available to all.

After joining local children on a tour of the adventure playground, Ledley shared his own memories of playing as a child before visiting the indoor community hall where a range of sport-based activities take place throughout the year.

Sereena Keymatlian, Director of Haringey Play Association, said: “We were really pleased to welcome Ledley to Somerford Grove Adventure Playground on National Play Day, a day where we celebrate the importance of play.

“The children and young people got to speak to Ledley about his memories of playing as a child and were absolutely delighted to meet him! We really value the support of Spurs and Ledley’s visit was the highlight of a fabulous day”

Ledley added: “It was great to visit Somerford Adventure Playground and see first-hand the incredible work they do for children in our community.

“It is so important that young people have places to go to meet their friends and take part in physical activity and it was clear to see how much fun they have here.”

Throughout the school holidays, Tottenham Hotspur Foundation is also delivering free football and multi-sports activities for young people as our popular Summer of Spurs programme returns.
