Grace Clinton: “I’m a creative risk-taker”

Mon 14 August 2023, 10:30|Tottenham Hotspur

Midfielder Grace Clinton sees herself as a creative outlet who can make chances for our forwards in Lilywhite.

A product of Everton’s youth academy, Clinton spent the second half of last season on loan from Manchester United at Bristol City, where she won the club’s Young Player of the Year award as part of a Championship-winning side.

After putting pen to paper on her first contract in N17, the Liverpool-born attacker couldn't hide her excitement at getting started in Lilywhite.

“I’m delighted to be here," she said in her first SPURSPLAY interview. “It’s been a long process throughout the summer, but as soon as I found out Spurs were interested I was buzzing and couldn’t wait to get started.

“You can see where Spurs are going and the journey that they’re on. Everyone knows how big of a club Spurs is and to be a part of that building process and to get Spurs to where they want to be, I want to be a big part of that.

“Last season at Bristol was definitely something I needed in my journey, going down to the Championship and really fighting every week. I’d never done that before. It was a battle and a struggle at times but I learnt so much and grew from it.

“I’m very creative. I like to describe myself as a risk-taker. I always want the ball, I’ll never shy away from it. I know Spurs fans are fans of Bethany England and I want to be the person giving her the goals."

Robert and Vicky were a big attraction for me. I’m really excited to get started with them.

At the age of 20, Clinton is in the perfect category to benefit from the coaching of Robert Vilahamn and Vicky Jepson, with the pair key to Grace’s decision to join us.

“Robert and Vicky were a big attraction for me to come to Spurs because they’re both known for developing young players and giving young players a chance, which is obviously amazing to hear,” she explained. “I’ve seen what he’s done with other players before and the players he’s worked with really like him, so I’m really excited to get started with him and Vicky.

“I want to get a certain amount of assists and goals and I want to be a big part of helping Tottenham progress from last year and place better in the league. I want us to grow as a team, but of course I’ve got my personal goals that I’ve set myself.”
