England aiming to make more history with the Lionesses in World Cup Final

Sat 19 August 2023, 12:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Bethany England will be hoping to make more history with the Lionesses as England face Spain in the Women’s World Cup Final on Sunday (11am UK).

Sarina Wiegman’s side have already gone further than England managed in any previous World Cup, beating Australia 3-1 in the Semi-Final on Wednesday to reach the Final for the first time.

After winning Euro 2022 last summer, Bethany England will be looking to earn another winner’s medal this weekend.

Our centre-forward played an important role in the Round of 16’s penalty shootout win against Nigeria. She dispatched confidently from the spot to give England the lead after Georgia Stanway and Desire Oparanozie both missed their first penalties.

Spain have also never won the World Cup and reached the Final courtesy of a dramatic 2-1 win against Sweden in the Semi-Final on Tuesday, all three goals coming in the final ten minutes of the game.

Jorge Vilda’s side were beaten 4-0 by Japan in the group stage but wins against Costa Rica and Zambia were enough to advance to the Round of 16, where they put five past Switzerland before beating Netherlands 2-1 in the Quarter-Final.

In the UK, the World Cup Final will be shown live on BBC One and ITV 1 at 11am on Sunday.
