Barcelona vs Spurs – how to watch, team news, kit colours, key information

Tue 08 August 2023, 14:04|Tottenham Hotspur

It’s a quick turnaround for the team as we travel to face Barcelona this evening (Tuesday 8 August) in our final pre-season match before the 2023/24 campaign gets underway at the weekend.

Tonight’s match is for The Joan Gamper Trophy, Barcelona’s annual showpiece named in honour of the club’s founding member, player and later President.

The 27-time La Liga champions are unbeaten in the fixture since 2012 and this year’s match will be played at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys – scene of the 1992 Summer Olympic Games – where all Barcelona home fixtures will be played during the 2023/24 season, due to renovation works at the Camp Nou. We will become the first ever English club to compete in the Gamper Trophy twice, having previously taken part in 1986 when it was a four-team tournament.

What is the team news?

Ange Postecoglou is expected to make wholesale changes to the team that play against Shakhtar Donetsk a little over 48 hours ago.

Some of the players who featured heavily in that match are not expected to travel to Spain.

Ange said after Sunday’s 5-1 home win against the Ukrainian side: “We’ll probably change the whole team for Tuesday. It will be a good challenge playing Barcelona away, an opportunity for us to implement.

“A lot of the players who will play on Tuesday night have had strong pre-seasons, so I’m looking forward to having them out there. Then, we prepare for Sunday. We get back from Barcelona and have a good lead into Sunday’s game at Brentford.”

Rodrigo Bentancur, Ryan Sessegnon, Fraser Forster, Bryan Gil and Alfie Whiteman are all still out for us.

Gavi (back), Andreas Christensen (ankle) and Inigo Martinez (foot) are sidelined for Barcelona, while Ilkay Gundogan will be assessed over an adductor issue.

What colours will the teams be playing in?

Barcelona will wear their usual red and blue striped shirts with navy shorts and red and blue socks.

We’ll once again be in our brand new 2023/24 home kit, which is all Lilywhite.

Barcelona’s goalkeeper will wear dark green with ours in light blue.

What will the weather conditions be like?

It’s due to remain sunny in Barcelona on Tuesday, with temperatures expected to be in the region of 26 degrees come kick-off time.
