"We made a huge mistake, but we kept on working" - Pedro Porro

Fri 28 April 2023, 10:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Pedro Porro was pleased we could begin to put a tough few days behind us on Thursday night as a spirited comeback at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium saw us pick up a point against Manchester United.

After a difficult week following Sunday's 6-1 defeat at Newcastle United, we looked to be heading towards further disappointment when we reached the break in north London as goals from Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford saw the Reds two to the good at half-time. However, after the 15-minute pause in play allowed Acting Head Coach Ryan Mason to reorganise us, we came out for the second period re-energised and with a new impetus.

Just nine minutes after the restart, we were back into the game as Pedro produced an exquisite finish to halve the deficit. Heung-Min Son then kept up his fine form, finding the back of the net for the fourth time in his last seven outings to bring us level with 11 minutes to play.

We had chances to get even more from the game with a win the desired result, however our Spanish wing-back knows that, in light of the past week, the team can take a lot of heart from our second-half showing, and the point could still prove significant.

With intensity, and with a different tune. We came out to comeback. With this attitude, to keep working, to go again tomorrow.

"At the end of the day we’re all professionals. We made a huge mistake, but we kept on working," our number 23 began as he reflected on the week following our defeat to Newcastle.

"It’s like that for us all. You make mistakes, the day after you want to put them right, to improve them.

"(Against Manchester United), I think that we started the match well, then their two goals hurt us a little but that’s how it goes. In the second half we came out and began well.

"With intensity, and with a different tune. We came out to comeback - which is what we needed to do. We wanted to win but we managed to get a point from it and that helps us. We’re more than aware of the situation we’re in and we want to move up the table. That’s what we’ll fight for. With this attitude, to keep working. To go again tomorrow with that same mindset and to keep working.

"I think that with the attitude we ended on (against Manchester United), with that desire, that drive to get something from the match, we need to bring that on Sunday."
