Cristian Stellini has confirmed that Richarlison is available for selection against AFC Bournemouth after getting a week of training under his belt – and has spoken about the possibility of Arnaut Danjuma featuring against his former club.
Brazilian international forward ‘Richy’ picked up a muscle injury and had to be withdrawn just minutes into our draw with Southampton on 18 March, and was only fit enough for a place on the bench in last weekend’s win over Brighton.
He remained unused against the Seagulls, but Cristian told SPURSPLAY after training on Friday that he’s in better shape to play against Bournemouth if required, giving us an extra option in the forward areas alongside January arrival Arnaut, who spent two years with the Cherries between 2019 and 2021 and featured off the bench last weekend.
“Richarlison has worked well this week, he’s had one week more to feel better,” said our Acting Head Coach.
“Last week he was on the bench but only with one training session and it was a long period without him so we didn’t want to take risks with him. Now he feels better but also we have Danjuma ready to play, so we can use Richarlison and Arnaut as well.”
Richarlison has worked well this week, he's had one week more to feel better.
Ben Davies and Emerson Royal have been shown on the Club’s social media channels this week continuing their recovery from respective hamstring and knee injuries and although happy with their progress, Cristian said they won’t be available this weekend.
“They are doing a good recovery, they are pushing,” he explained. “With the doctor, we are linked every day, we are trying to do our best, but they are not ready to play the next match.”
Cristian underlined the latest news in his press conference on Friday, telling the media: “We have only Richy with one week training with us, so only Richy is completely back and we recovered him. For the other players, they start to work but they work alone so they are not available. All the other players – Ben Davies, Emerson, other players – they are working hard but they are not available.”
That means Yves Bissouma (ankle), Rodrigo Bentancur (knee) and Ryan Sessegnon (hamstring) remain sidelined, while Lucas Moura serves the second of a three-match ban following his red card at Everton.
