Everton 1-1 Spurs

Premier League

We had to settle for a point at Goodison Park on Monday evening, as Everton netted a 90th-minute equaliser to cancel out Harry Kane’s penalty midway through the second half in a lively game in which both sides were reduced to 10 men.

Kane drilled home his 22nd Premier League goal of the season shortly after he was struck in the face by Abdoulaye Doucoure, who received a red card for his action, only for substitute Lucas Moura to receive his marching orders for a late tackle on Michael Keane, who then fired in a dramatic equaliser from 25 yards out two minutes later.

There was a flurry of chances in the opening quarter of an hour. Demerai Gray curled over before Pedro Porro’s drive from a tight angle was blocked, then on nine minutes Oliver Skipp’s burst forward was halted but the ball fell to Kane, whose goalbound shot on the turn was blocked by Keane. The defender then slashed a volley over the bar at the other end seconds later.

Kane spurned a great opportunity on 15 minutes, heading wide from Ivan Perisic’s excellent cross, but Everton then took control of the rest of the half. Although, Hugo Lloris wasn’t severely tested, Doucoure heading their best chance of the period over the bar when unmarked.

The Toffees could have gone ahead two minutes after the restart, Idrissa Gueye blazing over from 18 yards after Amadou Onana dispossessed Eric Dier but they were reduced to 10 men just before the hour mark when Doucoure raised his hand into Kane’s face in a scuffle and referee David Coote brandished a straight red card to the Everton midfielder.

We had complete control of the game after the incident, dominating possession as you’d expect and won a penalty in the 67th minute when Cristian Romero was brought down by Keane. Up stepped Kane to bury the spot-kick low and hard to his left, sending Jordan Pickford the wrong way.

Everton – in the relegation zone at the start of play – raised their intensity as they searched for an equaliser and Lloris had to tip over Gueye’s effort and then save from Keane’s header.

The game then took another twist two minutes from time when Lucas, off the bench in the 82nd minute, was given a straight red card for a late challenge on Keane near the halfway line six minutes later. And then, in the 90th minute, Keane picked up the ball 30 yards out and advanced goalwards before slamming a piledriver past Lloris.
