The Club will pay tribute to Gian Piero Ventrone and John Duncan at our UEFA Champions League match against Eintracht Frankfurt at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday evening (8pm).
Hugely popular and influential figures during their time at the Club, both sadly passed away in the last week.
Gian Piero was our fitness coach, a valued member of Antonio Conte’s team who forged a special relationship with the players after arriving with Antonio in November last year. He had close to a 30-year bond with Antonio, the pair having first worked together during Antonio’s playing career at Juventus in 1994.
John joined us from Dundee in 1974 and was our top scorer in 1974/75, 1975/76 and 1977/78, averaging a goal every two games for us with 62 goals in 120 appearances before departing for Derby County in 1978. He later managed a number of clubs including Chesterfield, who he famously led to the semi-finals of the FA Cup in 1997.
The Club asks fans to join in a moment of appreciation ahead of kick-off on Wednesday evening as we continue to extend our condolences to both families at this sad time. There will also be tributes on the big screen and, at half-time, presenter Paul Coyte will talk to John’s former team-mates.
Meanwhile, THFC Flags have a specially commissioned flag of Gian Piero that will fly in the South Stand.
