Ivan Perisic: “We have to fight for this Club”

Ivan Perisic has seen it all in 13 years at the top and provided a calming voice ahead of this evening’s UEFA Champions League clash at Eintrach Frankfurt (8pm UK).
“This is a new day, a new game,” the Croatian international told SPURSPLAY as we prepare to face last season’s Europa League winners in Matchday Three of Group D at the impressive Deutsche Bank Park off the back of a disappointing derby defeat on Saturday.
“It was tough, we were angry and it’s something we’ve spoken about,” added Ivan. “We saw where we made mistakes and we have to react, we have to play much better, run much more and fight for the Club, because in the dressing room, we know we played a bad game and that we can do much, much better.
“It doesn’t matter if it’s a derby or some other games, when you lose, you feel bad, but in football, like in all other sport, you get another chance and now three days later we have to show it was only a bad day.”
"Germany will always be in my heart"
Saturday was Ivan’s first taste of the NLD at the Emirates, but he’s very much back on familiar territory in Germany, where he claimed seven of the 10 major club trophies in his career so far in spells at Borussia Dortmund (2011-13), Wolfsburg (2013-15) and Bayern Munich (2019/20).
It’s a country that clearly means a lot to him as his children were also born in Germany. “I spent a really nice five years here with three clubs, winning a lot of trophies and I will never forget my time here. I also had two kids here, so Germany will always be in my heart.
“I always enjoying coming back here. Most important, after football, I had my son in Dortmund and my daughter in Wolfsburg, and that’s something amazing for me, I’ll never forget it.”
Ivan knows all about Eintracht Frankfurt from his time in the Bundesliga. “It was always tough when I played here. I think I’ve played with four or five clubs here, I know the atmosphere is going to be amazing, one of the best in Germany, and it’s going to be tough, Like I said, we have to show that three days ago was just a bad day and we now have to focus on the Champions League. This is a nice chance for us, but we have to be focussed. I think we are ready, and we will show it.”
