Tottenham Hotspur
Antonio Conte expects a tough test from team he sees as competitors for Champions League qualification and silverware this season when Newcastle United arrive for another big Premier League clash at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (4.30pm).
The ‘Toon’ have lost just once in the Premier League so far this season and moved up to sixth with a 1-0 win against Everton in midweek. Eddie Howe’s team are unbeaten in six and have won three of their last four, scoring 10 goals in those three wins.
I ask our fans also to stay very close to us, to push us, because it will be really, really difficult against Newcastle on Sunday
Speaking to SPURSPLAY on Friday, Antonio said: “We have a tough game against a team that is in a good period of form. Newcastle drew at United, played a good game, then won against Everton. They’ve started very well and at this moment, they want to be a protagonist in the Premier League. For sure, in the present at the future, they will be a danger for everyone.
“We have to try to play well, and I hope to see the way the players recover from their efforts in the last games. I have a lot of considerations to make to make the best decision. We want to continue to have good results. I want my players to play for a win in every game. That has to be our mentality.”
Speaking in his press conference, Antonio added: “We have to be focussed to do our best, because this period is not easy. For this reason, I ask our fans also to stay very close to us, to push us, because it will be really, really difficult against Newcastle on Sunday.
“You have to be strong in a difficult period, be strong and use this period to become stronger and stronger. I want players ready to take the responsibility, especially when the situation is not easy. This way I think you grow a lot, and you prepare yourself to be a protagonist in future.”
