Welcome back to our new series for 2022/23 - 1 from 30 - as we continue to mark 30 years of the Premier League.

English football's new dawn kicked-off on the weekend of 15/16 August, 1992 as the FA Premier League replaced Barclays League Division One, ending a structure of Division One-Four that had been in place since 1958. Thirty years on, the Premier League is amongst the most watched and most valuable sporting leagues in the world.

In this series, we're featuring a match from those 30 years that corresponds with our next fixture - so, next up, an afternoon to remember at the Lane as we put five past Newcastle in February, 2012...

Spurs 5-0 Newcastle - 11 February, 2012

Arguably the high point of 2011/12, Newcastle were blown away in a fantastic first half performance at the Lane as we fought to get back into the Champions League.

We'd made quite an impact in our first campaign in the UCL the season before, 2010/11, where we reached the quarter-finals in swashbuckling style.

Naturally, we wanted to get back in, but the season didn't start so well as we suffered back-to-back defeats against United and City. However, we sparked from there, and two defeats in our next 23 had us in the top four from November. Indeed, we'd only slip outside the top four once more and finished a comfortable fourth in the end.

That should have been enough but, alas, Chelsea, who finished sixth, won the Champions League and took the final place on offer.

Back to February though, and Louis Saha and Emmanuel Adebayor were too hot to handle for Toon - who would finish fifth - at the Lane. 'Ade' was unplayable, setting up all four goals in the first half before volleying home the fifth after the break. Benoit Assou-Ekotto opened the scoring from close range, Saha volleyed home Adebayor's cross for 2-0 before drilling home for 3-0, and Niko Kranjcar slotted the fourth after Ade broke into the box from Saha's pass.
