Club Ambassador Ledley King visited North Middlesex Hospital this week to open its brand-new Medical Day Centre.

The state-of-the-art Medical Day Centre provides same-day emergency care and acts as a hub to co-ordinate a range of different treatment needs for frail and elderly patients across Haringey and Enfield.

The opening of the new unit is part of North Middlesex’s plans to celebrate Frailty Awareness Month, which highlights the health impact of frailty and signposts support to patients who typically have longer lengths of stay when admitted to hospital.

After joining members of North Mid Choir to cut the ribbon, Ledley took a tour of the new facilities with North Middlesex Chief Executive Dr Nnenna Osuji and Chief Nurse Sarah Hayes who introduced him to frontline staff and patients.

The Club is a long-term supporter of North Middlesex Hospital, including opening the doors of its stadium to host hospital services during the pandemic and regular visits to the hospital itself from players and Ambassadors.

Speaking after the event Ledley said: “The Club has a fantastic relationship with North Middlesex Hospital, so I was delighted to come along and open its new Medical Centre.

“It is a hugely impressive facility, and it is always great to speak to frontline NHS staff who are so committed to their patients. This new centre will undoubtedly help a huge number of patients across the community.”

Dr Osuji added: “It was great to welcome Ledley to North Middlesex and to learn more from patients and colleagues about all the incredible work the team has been doing for Frailty Awareness Month including getting our frail patients out of bed for our frailty awareness sessions.

“This is an area we will continue to focus on for the people of Enfield and Haringey, recognising frailty is not just about age.”
