Wigan Warriors struck late to clinch the Challenge Cup as we hosted rugby league for the first time at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday.
Liam Marshall scored a superbly-crafted try just four minutes from time as Warriors edged past Huddersfield Giants 16-14. It was heartbreak for Giants, who had led 6-0, 10-6 and then 14-12 before that grandstand finale saw Wigan over the line for a record-extending 20th Challenge Cup victory.
Ricky Leutele scored the first try to put Giants 6-0 up, Harry Smith responded for Wigan but Chris McQueen struck again to hand Giants a 10-6 lead at half-time. Jai Field's score briefly handed Warriors the advantage at 12-10, only for Jermaine McGillvary to respond with a try in the corner for a 14-12 Giants' lead.
As time ran out, Smith picked a hole in the Huddersfield defence and delivered a perfectly-weighted kick for Marshall to gather and score the decisive try in front of the Wigan fans in the South Stand.
Earlier, Leigh beat Featherstone Rovers 30-16 to win the 1895 Cup - a competition for clubs in the Rugby League Championship - for the first time.
A crowd of 51,628 watched the action - and we've now hosted NFL, boxing, rugby union and rugby league at our world-class venue, with the first concerts to follow this summer as Guns N' Roses and Lady Gaga get set to rock N17 in July.
