Antonio’s verdict on vital win against Leicester

Antonio Conte was delighted with a ‘great reaction’ from the team as we secured a vital 3-1 win against Leicester City in the Premier League on Sunday.

Heung-Min Son scored twice and set up Harry Kane’s opener as we snapped back into the form that lifted us into the chase for a place in the top four.

That early goal was key - Harry heading home from Sonny’s corner on 22 minutes, their 42nd combination in the Premier League - and when Sonny finished from Dejan Kulusevski’s pass on the hour for 2-0, following two rattling challenges by Cuti Romero, you sensed a freedom returning to our play again.

Sonny capped the day with a special third goal, a picturebook curler off his left foot into the top corner from 20 yards. His double took him onto 19 goal in the Premier League this term, beating his previous best for us of 17 last season. Kelechi Iheanacho replied in injury time for the visitors.

I have seen a great reaction from this team. We have to continue in this way. For us, every game is vital

“It was a good performance, good commitment from my players,” said Antonio. “I have to be pleased because in the last two games we lost five points, and you know very well when you get to the final part of the season, if you don’t get three points, mentally, you can be down.

“Instead, today, I have seen a great reaction from this team. It’s not easy to beat Leicester, they showed to have a really good squad, made eight changes compared to their last game against Roma, but the quality of their squad is really high and to win, for us, was important because we continue to stay in the race for the Champions League.

“We have to continue in this way. It’s important that every player continues to give 150 per cent - 100 per cent is not enough in this moment.

“Four games to go, next game against Liverpool, maybe someone can think that we have to get points in other games, but I think we have to prepare for this game and to go there and try to get points. For us, every game is vital.”
