Harry Kane: “It’s all about gaining momentum”

Harry Kane ticked plenty of boxes in our 2-0 win at Brighton on Wednesday night and feels momentum is now key as we hit the last 10 games of the season.
The win was obviously most important, and Harry contributed again with the crucial second goal just before the hour to put us in control at the Amex. We started well, enjoyed good spells of possession against a team renowned for their work on the ball and took a lead into half-time when Dejan Kulusevski’s shot flicked off Cristian Romero and home. That was the Argentine's first goal, but his key role was at the other end as we kept a third clean sheet in our last four Premier League games.
Harry’s goal was also notable on a personal level - that was his 95th away goal, a record in the competition, and moved him ahead of Frank Lampard and into the league’s all-time top five goalscorers on 178.
It was a great performance from the whole team, a clean sheet away from home as well is key if we want to have top four hopes
“It was a really good performance, we controlled the game from the off, had a lot of possession, moved the ball well, broke the deadlock with a bit of luck - sometimes you need that, away from home - and even in the second half I thought we created the better chances, they didn’t create too much, and we probably could have got one or two more,” reflected Harry at the Amex.
“It was a great performance from the whole team, a clean sheet away from home as well is key if we want to have top four hopes. Overall, it was a good night, a good bounce back win and hopefully we can continue on Sunday.”
It was put to Harry that recent performances - Everton, Brighton, even in Saturday’s loss at United, suggested that the team is moving in the right direction.
“We’ve got to keep working, we spoke about that after the games, about gaining momentum, and that’s what we’ve got to try and do, especially before the international break. It’s really important to try and finish with a win (against West Ham on Sunday).
“I feel like we’re improving as team, understanding the manager’s ideas more and more, especially with the ball, without it we’re more compact - the bottom line is we have to turn all that into wins. United was a good performance bit we didn’t win, so it doesn’t matter.
“West Ham is a big game now, they are right in the top four hunt as well, a London derby, we’ve got to be up for it. West Ham have showed real quality this season and it will be a tough battle. We have to be ready for it.”
