Ledley King was out and about in Korea on Wednesday, visiting two of the biggest cultural destinations in Seoul.
First up, our legendary former skipper and ever-popular Club Ambassador travelled to Bukchon Hanok Village, a traditional Korean village in Seoul, composed of many narrow alleys, Hanok (traditional Korean houses), shops, restaurants and galleries. It's a residential area as well, with some Hanok dating back hundreds of years.
Ledley was joined by Korean influencer and Spurs fan YAN and members of the Korean Tourism Organisation, who explained the cultural importance of Bukchon Village. The pair listened as musician Dahyun jo played a traditional Korean string instrument called the gayageum, and Ledley was later taught a tune, you guessed it... 'nice one Sonny'!
From there, Ledley took a short trip to Gyeongbokgung Palace, dating back to King Taejo and completed in 1395. The name translates to the 'Palace greatly blessed by heaven', with Mount Bugaksan to its rear and Mount Namsan in the foreground, the site of Gyeongbokgung Palace was at the heart of Seoul.
Ledley and YAN were dressed in traditional Hanbok clothing and witnessed the changing of the guard, which reenacts the procedure that took place during the Joseon dynasty, when the Palace was completed, along with the reproduction of costumes and weapons, based on historical records.
Ledley said: "This was a fantastic opportunity to learn more about Korean culture and to immerse myself in the top cultural attractions here in Seoul. Seeing the Bukchon Hanok Village was a great experience, and being able to try on traditional Hanbok clothing was a true honour and an opportunity I will never forget.”
