Spurs in Korea - Antonio on our ‘amazing’ welcome in Seoul
Sun 10 July 2022, 14:00|Tottenham Hotspur
It’s safe to say Antonio Conte was blown away by our reception on landing in Korea on Sunday.
The squad were greeted by thousands of fans at Incheon Airport as we prepare for a week’s hard work and two matches in the Coupang Play Series - our opener against Team K League in Seoul on Wednesday evening followed by La Liga side Sevilla in Suwon on Saturday (both matches KO 12noon UK, 8pm local).
It’s just seven weeks since we clinched fourth place and a return to the UEFA Champions League with that memorable 5-0 victory at Norwich on the final day of last season, but we’re very much back down to business with the big kick-off less than a month away already - we face Southampton in our Premier League opener at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 6 August.
The enthusiasm around the Club, it was amazing. For sure, we need to repay our fans with a big achievement
Speaking from our hotel in Seoul this evening local time, Antonio said: “It’s true, it seems like we finished only yesterday. Instead, we had one month of rest, now we have our pre-season.
"It really was incredible to find all those people at the airport, great for me, I didn’t expect so many fans. The enthusiasm around the Club, it was amazing. For sure, we need to repay our fans with a big achievement.”
Look who was waiting for us 🥰

Even better - home hero Heung-Min Son, last season's Golden Boot winner and South Korea captain, was waiting to greet his team-mates in arrivals! “It was a big surprise to see him!” said Antonio. “Sonny is a really important player for us and a really good guy. To stay at home, I think for him is special. I have seen him today really happy, and with great pride that we are together in his country.”
