Pape Matar Sarr has been named Men’s Young Player of the Year at the 2022 Confederation of African Football (CAF) awards.
The 19-year-old midfielder, who signed for us last summer from Metz, spent the 2021/22 season back at the French club on loan and was part of the Senegal national squad that lifted the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year.
He was named on a final three-man shortlist for the prize that also included Karim Konate of RB Salzburg and Manchester United’s Hannibal Mejbri, before being confirmed as the winner at Thursday night’s ceremony in Rabat, Morocco, as the awards returned for the first time in three years following the COVID-19 pandemic.
Pape’s Senegal were also named as Men’s National Team of the Year.
The future is here! 💫
