Spurs v Southampton – how to watch, team news, key information

Tue 08 February 2022, 23:59|Tottenham Hotspur

Our first Premier League match since 23 January takes place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday evening as we welcome Southampton to north London (kick-off 7.45pm UK).

Both sides come into the game off the back of home victories in the FA Cup fourth round – we beat Brighton 3-1 while the Saints needed extra time to see off Coventry City 2-1.

Southampton arrive in 12th place on 25 points while we’re seventh on 36, although we could climb into the European qualification spots by winning some of our games in hand on the teams above us.

Here’s all the key information you need to know...

How can I watch the game?

Wednesday evening’s match will be televised live in the UK on BT Sport 3, kick-off 7.45pm.

If you’re supporting us from outside the UK, the worldwide broadcast listings will advise whether the match is being shown in your area.

How will the teams line up?

Eric Dier (thigh), Oliver Skipp (groin) and Japhet Tanganga (knee) all remain sidelined for us, having also missed Saturday’s FA Cup tie against Brighton.

Southampton will be without Lyanco after he suffered a hamstring injury against Coventry on Saturday.

Nathan Tella is also missing with a groin problem, while Armando Broja will be assessed after shaking off an injury of his own.

Who is the referee and what colours will the teams be playing in?

Wednesday’s referee will be David Coote.

He’ll be assisted by Harry Lennard and Nick Hopton, with Graham Scott as the fourth official and VAR looked after by John Brooks and assistant Lee Betts.

We’ll be in our home kit – Lilywhite shirts with navy shorts and navy socks – with our goalkeeper in green.

Southampton will play in yellow shirts with blue sleeves, blue shorts and yellow socks.

Their goalkeeper will wear pink.

How can I get the matchday programme?

New signing Rodrigo Bentancur is the cover star and subject of the main interview in Wednesday’s official matchday programme. As always, it’ll be on sale at the game, priced at the usual £3.50, available from all Tap Inn counters around the stadium and external pods situated at Paxton House, the South Podium, Park Lane Square and Worcester Avenue.

Supporters not attending the match can order a copy online here, for delivery direct to your door.

What will the weather be like?

It’ll be cloudy with light winds in north London on Wednesday night. Temperatures should be around nine degrees when the game gets underway.
