Michael Dawson surprised young players today (Thursday 17 February) when he visited one of the Club’s half-term Player Development Programmes in Hertford.

Our Global Football Development team have been delivering coaching sessions at several schools during the holidays, providing an insight into the Tottenham Hotspur coaching philosophy to local youth footballers.

Over 35 young players were joined by our Club Ambassador and put through their paces with a series of technical sessions.

After the physical session, the group had the opportunity to ask Michael questions including what his favourite memory was in a Spurs shirt, his favourite team to play against and his top tips to be a world-class defender.

The session was hosted at Richard Hale School, where our very own Academy graduate Oliver Skipp studied. Part of the Club’s Global Football Development programme, the school is a player development centre for young players aged five-12 years old with Friday evening and holiday sessions catering for youth footballers, goalkeepers, girls only programmes and advanced sessions for players who have been identified as talented within regular sessions.

Our Global Football Development coaches deliver world-class football development programmes around the world, using authentic training methods developed within the Club's Academy, with the aim of maximising every attendee’s potential not just as a player but as a confident individual, with a clear progression pathway for aspiring players from grassroots to elite.

Speaking after the session, Michael said: “It was brilliant to be able to attend today’s session with the Club’s Global Football Development team and see first-hand the great work the coaches do. There were some great young players in attendance, and it was a lot of fun to get involved in their session, engage with the coaches and talk to the young players and their parents.”

Danny Mitchell, Football Development Manager, said: “It has been fantastic to have Michael Dawson here today to connect with the young players. Our Global Football Development programmes have a proven track record of developing players from grassroots to an elite level and our coaches strive to support the development of all individuals at all levels of the game. Hopefully during this week, we have provided a positive and memorable experience for young players to help them on their journey.”
