Thu 29 December 2022, 16:45|Tottenham Hotspur

It’s music to the ears of all Spurs - and Sweden - fans... Dejan Kulusevski feels he has to ‘improve a lot’ as we step into 2023.

A creative force down our right flank, the all-action wide man from Stockholm has scored six goals and claimed 13 assists in his 28 Premier League appearances so far since joining us from Juventus on 31 January, making him a firm fans’ favourite in N17.

His year was capped by becoming the youngest recipient since 1990 of the prestigious 2022 Guldbollen, the prize for Sweden’s best male player, presented by national newspaper Aftonbladet and the Swedish Football Association.

I have to improve in my goalscoring. I have to score more, I have to assist more. I have to help my team as much as I can

Now, as we prepare to open 2023 with a New Year’s Day clash against Villa at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, ‘Deki’ wants more.

Speaking ahead of Villa, and asked by SPURSPLAY how he tops 2023, Deki told us: “To be better... to be a better player, a better person, a better boyfriend, a better son, everything.

“It’s nice on the first day of the New Year that we go out and do what we love the most, so I will enjoy it and start as strong as possible. I have to improve a lot and the more I can improve the more I can help my team, the more I can help my country.

“I’m still young, but I feel I have to take more steps. I have to improve in my goalscoring. I have to score more, I have to assist more. I have to help my team as much as I can and to do that, you have to be better every day, every training, every video, every recovery - you have to do everything right.”

Asked to sum up his 2022, Deki added: “It’s been amazing, really, from the beginning, it felt like home. Ever since living at (Pierluigi) Gollini’s house in the first weeks until I found my own place. The Premier League has been amazing, the Club is amazing, so I’m very happy.”
