Amy Turner was frustrated with how we responded to going a goal down in Wednesday’s 3-0 defeat at home to Everton in the Women’s Super League.

“I’m just disappointed really,” she said. “I think we need to have a long hard look at ourselves. We didn’t show up for the first 20 minutes and it’s not good enough. We can’t keep conceding the goals that we’ve been conceding.

“Now it’s about accountability and everyone taking it for their own performances really. We’re disappointed because we know we can give a lot more. We want to do more, train harder and do whatever it takes to get ourselves out of this situation.

“What we need to get better at first of all is not conceding goals in the first half. How we react to those situations, we either let it define the game or give us a kick to go on and be better. At the minute, we’re having the wrong effect.

“It’s getting to us and we need to be mentally stronger and more resilient to think we’re going to get goals. They’re going to come and we just need to keep believing in that.

“At 2-0 down, those patterns of play, unless they’re leading to a goal, they don’t mean much. We know we’re a good footballing side who can get the ball down and play, but if we’re conceding goals like we are, that doesn’t matter to me.

“We need to really work on how we be defensively strong and get back to that clean sheet mentality that we had. There are obviously some positives that we can take away from it but just not enough.

“For me personally, I go away and look at my own performance first and foremost after every game. As a defender, I don’t want to be conceding goals like we’ve been conceding. I’ll take accountability for sure, watch the game back tonight and have a look at areas that I could’ve done better in, and I hope everybody does that.

“Now’s not the time to start pointing fingers at each other. Now’s the time to look at our own game and what we’re doing wrong.”
