Harry: “I’m glad the goal meant something because we won, and that’s most important”

As everyone looked at his numbers, Harry Kane’s sole focus was on beating Wolves on Saturday.

He made sure we did just that by heading home the winner in the 64th minute of a testing encounter in the Premier League at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

After that, the numbers. Harry became only the second player to score 250 goals for the Club after Jimmy Greaves (266 goals, 1961-70) and with 185, moved into fourth place in the Premier League’s all-time goalscoring list, plus became the player to score most goals for a single club in the competition, toppling Sergio Aguero’s 184 at City.

“As I always say, I’m extremely proud of all these achievements, and hopefully there are a few more to go,” he told SPURSPLAY afterwards. “Big thanks to the team, the staff, the fans and everyone who makes it possible. I’m glad the goal meant something because we won the game, and that’s most important. I’ve just got to keep it going. I’m feeling good, feeling strong and the team is looking good.”

We had to dig deep a little, tough game, delighted with the three points. Overall, a really good day...

As Harry alluded to, Wolves made it tough for us, especially in the first half. We took control in the second half and struck the woodwork twice - Harry and Heung-Min Son - before Harry was there to convert Ivan Perisic’s flick from Sonny’s corner.

What was said at half-time? “Tactically we changed the way we wanted to get pressure on the ball,” explained the striker. “Then it was about bringing more intensity, so, when we wanted to press, it had to be an all-out press, making sure everyone’s going, then with the ball, being a bit more consistent and brave through the lines. We did that in the second half and created more chances.

“I feel, physically, we’re going to be stronger as games go on and that was the case. We had to dig deep and as a team, you’ll go through spells in games when you have to do that. Although we were under pressure, there weren’t too many clear-cut chances for them, we defended well, got our blocks in and then thankfully took a chance when we had one.

“That first goal is so important in games like this. It felt like we were putting the pressure on in the second half, the crowd were up, you could feel the atmosphere building and we scored at the right time. It was a really big win, especially after the draw (at Chelsea) last week."
